Here are some tips for getting a rental car:

-If possible, plan to pick up and drop off your rental car at the same location. Rental companies will let you rent a car in one area and then drop it off in another, but the price will be greatly reduced if you rent and return to the same location.

-Inspect your rental car thoroughly when you pick it up. Look for dents and scratches, try the headlights and the radio, make sure the agent you are renting it from documents and existing damage that the car may have, that way you won't get charged for those damages when you drop the car off.

-Try and get an upgrade. Most people want to rent the affordable compact cars and often the car rental agencies will have the bigger, more luxurious cars just sitting there. If they are overbooked on the smaller rentals, the agent might be willing to give you an upgrade to a nicer car for next to nothing. Doesn't hurt to ask.
